Mashtun notes:

This is the first Dailuine we have reviewed so were very keen to give it a go. Dailuine (Gaelic for green valley) is in Speyside and isn’t the easiest whisky to get hold of (most if the bottlings are independent), but it certainly produces some nice malt whisky.

The nose on this one gave us lemon grass, hay, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, and apples. The palate had citrus notes as well as soft spices, toffee, parma violets, heather, and a hint of oak. The finish was long and smooth with grassy notes and a little burn/bitterness towards the end. It had a light golden colour and oily texture. Letting this dram breathe sweetens the nose and brings out vanilla notes. It also brings out dark fruits the longer it sits. Adding water brings this dram together nicely. It brought out creamy floral notes on the nose and married them with the initial flavours of the palate. It also brought our hints of Madeira wine.

This dram was very interesting to try and we really appreciated how it evolved over time. When it finally came together it’s a pleasure to sip away at.

Overall MashTun Score = 75/100

A Picnic at Harvest Time

Roll out the red checked cloth and spread out baked bananas with brown sugar, lemon curd and flapjack. Wine like aromas like sangria fruit and stewed sultanas tangled with vanilla iced party biscuits. Lashings of homemade ginger beer and lemonade had spice while apple pie and custard gave sweetness. A sprinkle of rain brought out warm hay bales, wooden crates and buttercups. Crabbies Ginger wine and hot crossed buns reminded the panel of warm Summer afternoons. Caramel apple Betty, marshmallow and bubble gum brought mouthwatering juiciness to the feast. Lay back in the sun - the work is done!
