Mashtun notes:

The nose on this one gave us toffee, cream, sherry, treacle, raisins, new leather, and struck matches. The palate was sweet and fruity with hints of vanilla and rum and raisin. The finish was thick, creamy, and zesty with a tinge of alcohol in the back of the throat. This dram was very pale in colour with a soft and velvety texture. Letting it breathe mellowed every aspect and dulled the alcohol feel, it also brought out sherry notes. This dram is already smooth considering its ABV but adding a little water really brings it to life. Just a drop brought out hints of dark chocolate, cherries, and sherry. It also brought all the flavours together and improved the nose, palate, and finish.

As much as this is a positive review the whisky did split the panel with one member thinking it was average at best. It did get a decent overall score though as the other two panel members thought it was a fantastic sherried whisky that really improved with water and a little breathing space.

Balanced and Harmonious

On the nose, lemon, bramble and pine tussle with liquorice allsorts, coconut, dried fruits, pineapple, and vanilla; dustier and woodier with water. On the palate, dark chocolate, cherry, strawberry jam, honey and custard harmoniously complement tongue-tingling peppery spice and bitter fruits.

Notes: 57.5% ABV – SMWS 25 year old Glen Grant. Refill sherry butt and distilled April 1988. 516 bottles produced and £90 per bottle at time of tasting.

Nose:

Subtle combination of notes: apples, treacle, sherry, new leather, lime

Palate:

The palate was a surprise, more potent than the nose suggests: sweet, punchy, fruity

Finish:

Quite short finish, a little disappointing after the lively palate.. just left with the dryness of the alcohol

Colour:

Light yellow

Texture:

Soft and velvety

Air:

Not a lot

Water:

Didn’t add any

Overall comments:

I enjoyed the first few sips but this petered out after a short while. A pleasant dram but not very complex and lacks aftertaste.
