Highland Park 10yr
Mashtun notes:
This whisky was actually a rare find that we discovered at the distillery itself. It’s still available on auction sites though, and at a reasonable price. The standard Highland Park is 12 years old and this is actually quite different, and slightly sweeter and smokier. The nose on this one gave us sweet malt, dark fruits, sherry, rich fudge, and Havana cigars. The palate holds the flavours of the nose but also has butterscotch, cocoa, and maple syrup. The finish is medium in length with smoke, butter, sweet sherry, and chocolate. The colour is a golden bronze and the texture is light and oily. Letting this ram breathe brings out slightly more smoke and an aniseed / liquorice sweetness. We all agreed the whisky didn’t need any water but a few drops won’t drown it.
This is a nice change from the Highland Park 12 and is an extremely well balanced whisky. Having said that; it still manages to retain those Highland Park flavours while bringing sweet smoke and butterscotch to the party. Very nice if you can get it!
Highland Park 10yr
The sherry casks from Spain and peat dried barley help produce a smooth butterscotch taste with sweet peated aromas. This combination ensures the whisky is smooth and well balanced.
Notes: 40% ABV – 10 years old (export only - Holland) and only produced in half bottles. £20 per half bottle (35cl) at time of tasting.
