Mashtun notes:

The nose on this gave us marzipan, vanilla, hazelnuts, citrus, hay, and peppermint with a hint of pepper. The marzipan and hay/floral notes carry through to the palate. They are then joined by butterscotch, Turkish delight, white chocolate mice, and slight woody notes. The finish is long and tanny with hints of boozy sponge cake. This dram has the colour of a white wine and a creamy dense texture on the mouth. Letting this dram breathe slightly mellows the nose if nothing else, but adding water really opens the whisky up. Adding a bit of water sweetens the nose but un-sweetens the palate. It also brings out liquorice allsorts, more white chocolate, and a hint of leather. In short, at 60.5% this dram opens up nicely with a little water, we were split on how much to add but to be honest it’s all personal preference.

This is a fantastic sweet, creamy, energetic wee dram that has bags of character. We have always felt that Glen Elgin is an underrated distillery and this dram just goes to prove that point! A great offering that showcases the SMWS’s ability to pick a whisky along with the fantastic base spirit that Glen Elgin produce.

On the nose neat a fascinating combination of warm and refreshing aromas like sweet mint leaves rubbed between your fingers, the fresh ‘green’ scent of a recently mowed lawn on a sunny day, olive oil wood polish and slightly melted honeycomb candy ice cream. On the palate, a minty cool and refreshing start which then quickly became flavours of spicy hot cross buns as well as fruity cinnamon apple pies. Water added aromas of rosewater Turkish delight candy, coconut panna cotta with a pineapple salsa and the mouthfeel was now fresh, cooling creamy with a hint of spice like a hazelnut iced coffee.
